My name is Regina, predestined by Christ before the foundation of the world, to be adopted through Jesus Christ according to the good pleasure of the Father’s will. I accepted Jesus Christ in high school, but I struggled with the assurance of salvation. Every effort to sustain my salvation was disappointing and hopeless. Despite my despair, God continued to pursue me. In my final year of campus, I met a missionary who later discipled me. As we opened the pages of Scripture together, I saw God’s unconditional love, how He has called me to Himself through Christ, and that no one or nothing can pluck me from His hand. Oh, this good news brought comfort and joy to my weary heart.
Seeing how the missionary’s obedience was a means of grace God used to draw me to Himself inspired me to seek God’s guidance through prayer regarding my calling to missions. Then, an opportunity presented itself. In 2024, I enrolled in the iServe Africa Apprenticeship program. I was stationed in Madogo, Garissa, as a teacher at a local school, where I teach grades 4 and 5 and lead PPI.
Given that most of the students are Muslims, I am constantly challenged to exemplify a different way of life. I thank God for the curious minds among the kids, desiring to know why we are different. We respectfully share our beliefs, holding on to the promise in Corinthians that we plant and that God brings growth.
I attend Deliverance Church Garissa, where I help teach Sunday school and lead a Bible study before the service. We are currently doing a book study on Mark written by iServe Africa. After the service, we meet with youths for sermon reflection or to discuss topical issues.
The Ministry Training Course has shown me that the gospel is for all people, children included. We don’t need to tone down the truths of the gospel to moralistic teachings to enforce behavioral compliance. Rather, we must consistently preach the gospel, allowing it to penetrate their hearts and gradually transform their lives. Significant highlights during the Ministry Training Course include learning to see Christ for myself in all pages of the Scriptures and seeing how different stories of the Old Testament are part of a bigger story: God’s plan for man’s salvation through Jesus Christ. I have also enjoyed the fellowship with fellow apprentices during our physical training, singing through gospel truths and playing games.
This being my sixth month, I am learning to appreciate children’s ministry’s hard yet noble work. I am learning to love and be patient with kids in their amazing and worst moments. I have grown to desire the noble task of nurturing children. I pray that I will be obedient if God calls me to long-term missions and that I will not only live out my Christian beliefs but also boldly proclaim them in the mundane things of life, in whatever path the Lord leads. I thank God for iServe Africa and the opportunity to be equipped and equip others.
