My name is Abednego Benard. I am a sinner saved by God’s grace. I am a first-year apprentice with iServe Africa, placed at GracePoint Church in Kikuyu. I am a former student of The Eldoret National Polytechnic, where I studied for a Diploma in Information Communication Technology.
At GracePoint Church Kikuyu, I am involved in the Communication Department and the Youth and Children’s Ministry. The communication work involves weekly reminders to those involved in the Sunday service and graphic design for the church’s materials. This has shaped my communication and graphic design skills, and I am certain that these skills will help me after this apprenticeship program.
Here at GracePoint Church, I help prepare and facilitate a youth fellowship every first three Fridays of the month (Youths on Friday). It is very encouraging to see young people turning up every Friday to hear and understand the Gospel at this age. This has also helped me grow my organizational skills and leading fellowships.
One of the things I am grateful for is how the Lord has continued to transform my character. Previously, I didn’t enjoy reading books, but through the online Ministry Training Course, I am encouraged to read more, and I am slowly starting to love reading.
Gospel centrality is another significant highlight of my training. I have been enjoying Expository preaching at GracePoint Church, which is helping me understand the Bible more and be able to read it on my own. I am grateful for a local church where I am assured of seeing Christ in all the pages of Scripture every Sunday and during midweek services. Identifying who Jesus is, why He came, and how we are called to respond to Him is the central theme of our sermons.
When I joined the ministry, I was very excited, thinking I was sacrificing this one year to God. I was unaware that this mission belongs to God and could continue without me! God’s mission is to save the whole world; it doesn’t matter if you are a Muslim or Hindu. As a believer, I have a call to make disciples. I pray and desire to continue with this call of sharing the Gospel with everyone. I might not be a full-time minister, but wherever I am, I will continue with the mission of God, making disciples in my workplace, neighborhood, and beyond. I pray that I will also be a faithful servant, striving to live a holy life because our God is holy.
