I am David Gitumbi Ngugi, a sinner saved by God’s grace and a graduate of Karatina University with a bachelor’s degree in education science (PHY/CHE). Currently, I am an apprentice with iServe Africa, placed at Mercy Ministries in Bungoma.
Mercy Ministries is a Christian charity organization encompassing Mercy Baptist Church, Mercy Christian Academy, and Mercy Children’s Home. My responsibilities span across these three integral components, with a primary focus on teaching mathematics to grades 9 to 11 at Mercy Christian Academy. I am also actively involved in the school choir, attending practices daily from 5:00 to 5:30 pm and additional training sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. In Mercy Baptist Church, I contribute to the children’s ministry, teaching grade 6 and grade 5 pupils. Additionally, I assist with caretaking duties at Mercy Home during weekends and other delegated responsibilities.
This experience has been transformative, and I appreciate the inclusive nature of the gospel, reaching everyone without exclusion. I am inspired by the efforts of the placement to provide classical Christian education, a powerful tool for discipleship. The trainings at Mercy Ministries, including a comprehensive study of the entire Bible, have been enriching. Regular sessions focused on observing, interpreting, and applying the Scriptures have further deepened my understanding.
I extend my gratitude to iServe Africa for providing convicting training sessions, particularly in studying the books of John and Romans. These studies have reinforced the understanding that man is inherently sinful, Christ alone provides righteousness, the Word of God is ultimate and truthful, and the glory of life is to honor God for His work in believers through Christ Jesus.
Looking into the future, my desire is to be actively involved in ministry, particularly in Bible teaching. I pray that the exposure and growth I am experiencing at iServe Africa will continue to be guided by the Lord as I pursue this path.
