Apprentice Story-Ferdinand Mung’oni

My name is Ferdinand Mung’oni, a sinner saved by God’s grace. I got saved during my second year in college when a dear friend taught me that I could only be saved by putting my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Until then, I had depended on my good deeds, which were revealed to be like filthy rags during our discussions. Eventually, I cried out to God to save me, and praise God for His grace. I now have eternal life.

I joined the iServe Africa apprenticeship program in January 2024, where I was placed at Trinity Chapel Oyugis in Homabay County. At Trinity Chapel, I serve at the administration desk, running all the administrative duties of the church. This includes preparing preaching topics and series for the year, managing accounts, preparing schedules for pastoral visits, and participating in some of these visits. I also preach in church, teach teens, and run weekly Bible studies. Additionally, I work as a coach for the community team, teaching boys aged 4 to 15 football and sharing the gospel in every session.

Working as an admin has been a new experience but has significantly improved my computer skills. I have also learned to be more organized, scheduling programs, and making calls. Moreover, I have gained leadership skills by planning and delegating duties. I have found great joy in conducting one-on-one Bible studies, where I disciple men and boys in the church. This has greatly strengthened our relationships and my growth in Christ. Being part of the preaching team has provided a platform for me to grow in communication, sermon preparation, and delivering messages, enhancing my interaction with the scriptures.

One of my significant highlights is combining my passion for football with ministry. Since my early years, I have been a footballer, and being placed where I can interact with footballers and teach them about Christ has been a blessing. My supervisor, an experienced soccer coach and pastor, has made my life easier, and we share a great relationship.

The Ministry Training Courses (MTCs) by iServe Africa have been crucial in solidifying my convictions about ministry. Through the training, I have come to understand that God has called me to participate in His mission of saving people through the gospel, which is the power of God for salvation to all who believe.

I have not yet planned for the future, but if God allows, I would love to pursue long-term sports ministry.
