What is Man’s greatest problem if one could ask? Or we could put it this way, what is my greatest problem? I know you have got several responses to this. The truth is we all have problems, not just a problem. More than what we already know or think is our problem, we have the greatest problem. Every man’s problem is sin and above all God is angry.

Sin is real, present and everyone is guilty of it. Take a look at Romans1:18-32. Beginning with vs 18 “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all the godless and the wickedness of people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.”

It is so clear that God looks at sinful humanity and is angry. Because God is infinitely holy and does not associate Himself with sin, He does not remain silent about it but He acts towards it. He pours out His wrath on ALL humanity. There’s no exception here. People have suppressed the truth about God by their wickedness and that has attracted God’s judgment. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20 NIV

Everything about God has been made visible to us. Nothing at all has been hidden from us. But man has chosen to rebel against God. God then responds by giving man over to the sinful desires of their heart. He gives humanity over to their shameful lust. And the result you find man is filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. The situation of man is hopelessness.

Due to our hopelessness, we need to hear about the Good News about Jesus Christ. As Paul says in Romans 1:16-17 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”

In the Gospel, God’s power to save us from our sinfulness is revealed. His righteousness as well is revealed in the Gospel. Friends, we therefore need not to be ashamed of the Gospel for in it there’s God’s power to save us from God’s wrath. What we need is faith in God! When we grasp the depth of our sins and its horror, we would turn to God and plead for mercy.   Have you realized our greatest human problem is sin and only God can save us? Why don’t you turn to God and plead with Him for mercy?
