OUR BACKGROUND

iServe Africa was founded in 2007 by Rev. Harrison Mungai after spending two years in the UK as a ministry apprentice. Through observation of the UK church landscape, training and the personal mentoring he received, he became strongly convinced that the African church is in great need of trained gospel workers and servant leaders. After prayer and wide consultations with leaders both in Kenya and in the UK, the idea solidified and he felt strongly persuaded that an apprenticeship programme would be one answer to raising a generation of gospel workers. These would then faithfully teach the scriptures and encourage others to know God and the Gospel, and live out their faith in the African context. (2 Timothy 2:2)

Therefore, we are a non-profit Christian organization registered by the NGO Coordination Board as an International NGO (Registration Number OP.218/051/11-035/6919). In February 2014 a parallel registration, iServe Africa Gospel Society, was enacted under CAP 108 [The Societies Act], society number SOC/66336, registration number 43946.

We exist to promote faithful bible teaching and Servant Leadership. Our goal is to influence leadership in Africa, and beyond by mentoring and training a generation of servant leaders through mobilization, recruitment, training, sending and supporting Gospel workers. The need for servant leaders in Africa today cannot be over-emphasized. Our continent needs qualified workers to engage sacrificially with the current generation through community action, school work, youth and children’s work etc.

The iServe Africa apprenticeship programme is one way in which we can equip the next generation to face the challenges and opportunities in the 21st century. We engage fresh graduates as voluntary workers who use their gifts, talents, skills and abilities for the benefit of their placements (churches, schools, hospitals, community development projects etc) and their personal development.

The work has been going on for years and more programs have been added, such as the TransformD Discipleship Programme for form four leavers, the Utumishi Course for those already in ministry, the Eneza Church planting Course for those who are thinking about Church planting and many other programs, all geared towards raising servant leaders and connecting God’s people to Gods mission.

THE VISION AND MISSION OF ISERVE AFRICA.

iServe Africa is an indigenous Kenyan gospel-driven organization that exists to promote faithful Bible teaching and servant leadership. It does this mainly through an apprenticeship programme for fresh graduates who are placed in churches and Christian community projects across Kenya with the aim of giving them experience and training in gospel ministry. Alongside the flagship apprenticeship programme iServe Africa is also running and developing other programmes and resources to serve and encourage the local church in the areas of faithful Bible teaching and servant leadership.

Our Vision

Entrusting the Gospel to the next generation for transformation of the whole person, whole churches, and whole communities in the whole world..

Our Mission

Connecting God’s people with God’s Mission through mobilization, recruitment, training, sending and supporting Gospel workers for holistic transformation in Africa and beyond.

What we Believe

01
We are Evangelical.

iServe Africa is evangelical in principle and practice. We are clear about our evangelical basis which proclaims the Sovereign, triune God- Father, Son and Holy Spirit who has spoken infallibly to us through a clear and sufficient word, the Bible, and who has acted to rescue His people through the penal and substitutionary death of Jesus Christ. We are Bible-believing, Cross-preaching people. It is an evangelical, gospel faith which we seek to promote in our partnership with placements and in the lives of our apprentices.

02
We run a sacrificial model.

The ministry of iServe Africa apprentices is sacrificial. We do not follow an essentially secular model of self-fulfillment.

There are great gains for those involved with iServe Africa as apprentices.

But great gains come not by sight but by grace and not through seeking fulfillment for ourselves but through joyful obedience to God and willing sacrifice for others.

We believe iServe Africa has a task to encourage a counter cultural vision of sacrificial service

03
We are big on servanthood.

The ministry of iServe Africa follows the pattern of the Apostle Paul who did not cling to his rights or his culture but made himself a servant of all (1 Corinthians 9). We place apprentices to be immersed in the life of the local Christian community. We encourage apprentices to be part of the small, the ordinary, the routine and the long term of Christian ministry. This has a vital contribution to offer to the apprentices – they can immerse themselves in, and identify with, communities of all ages and all backgrounds.

04
We run a pastoral ministry.

The ministry of iServe Africa is pastoral.

We hold our placements and apprentices in very high esteem and seek to provide quality support through the staff and training, regular visits and other resources.

Our determination is to enable our apprentices both to grow in their knowledge and understanding of God and of His plans and purposes for their lives and also to contribute effectively during their year as apprentices.
