The Concept:
iServe Africa International Apprentices Programme is designed to give a cross cultural mission experience to christian graduates from other countries. It gives an opportunity for them to live and work in Kenya giving them valuable exposure to the Kenyan ministry landscape. It also aims to expose them to the principles of biblical preaching which they will hopefully take back to their home countries. The programme is voluntary and apprentices are required to raise part of their support from mission partners before they come out to Kenya.
How does it work?
The idea works through a partnership with a sending/recommending church or organisation which recommend an apprentice (s) to iServe Africa. The partnering organisation will commit to handle logistics from their end. The organisation will be our accountability partner and the apprentice will, to a large extent, be accountable to that organisation.
The organisation will be committed to facilitate the apprentice in their fundraising for the mission trip. The monies will be received by the organisation and sent over to us, in other words it will be an organisation to organisation partnership. Those apprentices recommended by will need to fill an application form giving their details to us.
Once recommended, the candidate will then make an application. If successful they will embark on fundraising. We will take care of them from this end and sort out all the logistical issues involved including their medical insurance and their legal status as volunteers while in Kenya. Since this process takes time, we need to receive applications by March 31st . The recommendation is entirely in the hands of our partner organisation but we cannot guarantee places for all the recommended candidates.
Finances
It is helpful to understand that iServe Africa Apprenticeships are voluntary and no financial gain should be expected from them. However, we give a basic stipend for subsistence since the main costs such as food and accommodation will be provided. For the entire year, It will cost US$ 6000 to support one international apprentice for a year. We will ask their placement in Kenya to raise US$ 1200. The apprentice or their sending organisation will need to raise the balance as a commitment to the programme. This money can be raised before they start their apprenticeship or as they serve in the course of the year, however we will ask the partnering organisation to guarantee it. Please note that no money should be sent to us before the apprentice reports for apprenticeship. For a limited number apprentices from within Africa, iServe Africa runs a support scheme for them and details are available upon request.
The above costs do not include fares, visas and travel insurance, the apprentice will therefore need to raise some additional amounts for road or air transport.
The next steps
The next steps involve making an application and once we process we will communicate in good time to enable you to adequately prepare for a year in Kenya.
However, we do not encourage direct applications from outside Kenya. Please contact us so that we can give you the details of our partner organisation in your country to whom you can send an enquiry. We only deal directly with our partner organisations. Please use the contact us pane to send us an enquiry.
